Description:

Introduction
The Atlantis Hotel on Barbados east coast is a luxury resort with a fascinating history. In 1882, Atlantis was a small family guest house, which became enormously popular not only because it was the only hotel on the east coast, but because a new railroad line to the east coast ended right in front of it. Before the railroad came to Barbados, traveling across the country could only be done by horse and cart. Today, the Atlantis, which is its original name, is a three and a half-star hotel with a long list of amenities and thoughtful touches that sits right in front of the Atlantic Ocean.

Wining and Dining
The wild east coast of Barbados, once considered a haven only for surfers, has now been tamed. When the newly redesigned and renovated Atlantis Hotel opened in December of 2009, Andrew Warden, who also owns the deluxe Little Good Harbour Hotel in west Barbados, brought that hotel's top chef, Stephen Belgrave over to his new establishment. One there, he created a new menu for Atlantis with selections like chile-and-tomato seafood stew, Banjan Fried Chicken skewers with pepper sauce, and Spiced Rub Pork Chop with pineapple glaze. The meals are served in the hotel restaurant, and there is a bar and a lounge as well. The Atlantis attracts a big crowd of both locals and hotel guests for its acclaimed Barbadian buffets held on Wednesdays and Sundays. Room rates include breakfast.

Rest and Relaxation
The Atlantis is wrapped in soothing, relaxing breezes from the ocean right outside its doors. Every guest receives a white bathrobe and designer toiletries. Spa treatment massages are available.

Sports and Recreation
This hotel has an outdoor pool for swimming. The Atlantic ocean is considered too rough at this spot except to wet your toes in. Nearby attractions include golfing, surfing, a running track, Yoga instruction, helicopter tours, hiking, horseback riding, fishing and eco-tours.

Atlantis Location
The Atlantis Hotel is situated on the rugged Atlantic coast overlooking Tent Bay's large rocks. Being on the east coast, it is removed from the heavier tourist area, which is on the west. Interesting close destinations include Andromeda Botanic Gardens, Bathsheba Beach, the Soup Bowl, a surfer's paradise, and Crane Beach, south-east in the Parish of St. Philip, which provides calmer waters of the Atlantic.
