Activities in Barbados

Should the idea of sunning yourself every day on a beautiful tropical island seem a little too lazy or inactive for you, fear not as there are a great range of activities to take part in while visitng Barbados.

Boat Trips
As well as the obvious beach life and swimming to be done, the island is a great place to enjoy a boat trip - these range from quiet, independent explorations on smaller craft to all out parties on the larger boats, complete with pirates, water slides and of course, plenty of rum!

Submarine trips
For those who love the idea of the deep blue sea but can't bear the thought of scuba diving to take in the coral reefs, it is possible to take a trip in a submarine to visit the island's vast coral reef and enjoy the view from the comfort of your porthole.

Diving and Snorkelling
Not only is the marine life surrounding Barbados stunning, with a large reef on the West Coast and diverse tropical species of fish, coral and sponges, but the naval history and calm seas of Barbados offers up something a little different - wreck diving, which can be enjoyed by experienced divers and inexperiences snorkellers alike.

Surfing
Despite the normally calm seas of the Carribean, Barbados has a number of good beaches for surfers - the best being on the East Coast. Bathsheba is perhaps the best, while good swells can also be found at Needhams Point on Brandon's beach and occasionally at Rockley's beach on the South coast.

Windsurfing + Kitesurfing
Silver Sands on the Southern tip of the island offers great conditions for kite surfers, and there are lessons available for those who would like to give it a try.

Hiking
Through the Barbados National Trust (http://trust.funbarbados.com) it is possible to join hikes across the interior of the island, where experienced guides share insights into the local wildlife, history and geology. The hikes are generally around 8km and are free to join, normally run on Sunday mornings and afternoons.
